F1 News: Mick Schumacher is Adamant to Silence the Critics - "Prove Them Wrong"
Haas has confirmed that Mick Schumacher will not be continuing with the team into 2023 in what is a sad day for F1 enthusiasts. But despite the American-owned team looking to the future with a new driver, Nico Hulkenberg, Schumacher insists that he will "prove everybody wrong".
Hulkenberg hasn't raced at all since 2019, so it will be interesting to see if the driver will adapt well to his new position on the grid.
The son of 7-time world champion Michael Schumacher released an emotional statement, admitting:
"I don't want to hide the fact that I am very disappointed about the decision not to renew our contract," ending the statement with "PTW".
'PTW' in this context stands for 'prove them wrong', which he was asked about after the fact.
"PTW, it has been pretty much what I have been saying for the most part of this year," he told the press.
"I just felt like saying that because I feel like I want to prove everybody wrong who doesn't believe in me.
"I know what I can do. I have proven that in the junior categories and I don't see why I can't do that in Formula 1 either."
"I just want to put myself into a position where I know it is going to be right for me." he said before shedding light on his possible future.
He goes on to add that he is continuing to consult with his contacts on how to remain within the sport of F1, admitting that he doesn't believe it will be too long:
"If that is a reserve, if that is driving, that is to be discussed and analysed. I have the people that I trust around me that I will be consulting with.
"I will come out with some news, hopefully, soon."
F1 will certainly be left a worse place without the Schumacher name, but with his driving history so far this season and the one before, it's no surprise the driver's being let go. Although it would have been nice to give Mick more time to secure another seat.
