Nico Hulkenberg stole the limelight, clinching a spot on the front row for the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix this weekend. His final lap of Q3 earned him P2 on the grid, right next to the dominant Max Verstappen and his powerful RB19.

“"I did [have fun]," he confessed to Danica Patrick in the aftermath of the thrilling qualifying session. "It was a wild quali, it was crazy, changing conditions are tricky especially around here with the walls so close and the exits and the speeds high."

In further conversation, Hulkenberg acknowledged the challenge of adapting to the constantly evolving track conditions. Despite the hardships, the German driver was thrilled with his and Haas's performance today.

"Obviously wet, dry and then back to wet so we had to readjust all the time but it was fun, it was good. Obviously, this comes a bit unexpected but obviously very happy and proud, the team did a solid job, it was really smooth, so super happy," he remarked.

Hulkenberg continued to compliment the communication within the American team.

"In this weather, it’s just a lot of communication, a lot of radio calls going back and forth, obviously you look at what the others do and you think for yourself but I think we did pretty well today, no major mistakes and I guess that’s also why we stand here now.”

When probed about his plans for the race day, Hulkenberg responded with a laugh:

“We’ll have to see, [but the] first row is nice, it’s very sweet, let’s see how long we can keep that and let's see what the conditions are tomorrow. All the signs are that it's very different and a dry race so [it's] a very different cup of tea. I just want to go out there, race as hard as we can squeeze it and get a nice result.”

This surprising outcome has definitely added a new layer of excitement to the upcoming Grand Prix, leaving fans eager to see whether Haas can pull of a miraculous Grand Prix performance this weekend. Of course, it's unlikely the VF-23 will stay up at the front of the grid for too long, but we can all hope, right?

Unfortunately for the German, it's likely he could be hit with a penalty after speeding under red flag conditions. more news will come soon enough on the subject.
