F1 News: Nyck De Vries Could Make Surprise Formula One Comeback
In a shocking twist of events, you could witness former AlphaTauri driver Nyck de Vries back in the team's F1 car or, perhaps even in one of Red Bull's RB19 during the Mexico City Grand Prix weekend. However, he would be racing as a reserve driver.
De Vries was dropped from his AlphaTauri racing seat on performance grounds when he failed to meet their expectations. He was replaced by Red Bull's reserve driver Daniel Ricciardo. Now though, it is Red Bull junior Liam Lawson who is serving as the team reserve driver for the remainder of the season.

However, Lawson is participating in the Japan-based Super Formula championship whose last two races coincide with the Mexico City Grand Prix. Therefore he would be unable to perform his reserve driver duties. But, there are chances of de Vries being asked to drive for Red Bull and AlphaTauri as a reserve driver.
This is a high possibility because de Vries has not entered into a new contract with any other team. Consequently, he remains under contract with Red Bull despite the sacking until the end of its term toward the year-end.
De Vries recently announced a step he was taking away from motorsports to educate himself further at Harvard to study negotiation and leadership. Now though, his contract with Red Bull could be pulling him back to the grid.
However, in case any of the teams in Formula E or the World Endurance Championship sign him for the coming year considering his commendable past record in both events. And with teams interested to have him on board, in such a case, his Red Bull contract would be void and he won't have to fulfill his reserve driver duties.
We could come up with several other 'if and but' scenarios but what does the future hold for de Vries? Only time will tell.
