- Team Strategy Amidst Concerns: The team orders, while surprising, were seemingly rooted in concerns regarding tyre management and adherence to track limits, with a clear aim to secure the second and third podium spots for McLaren.
F1 News: Oscar Piastri Takes First Win In Qatar GP Sprint Race
Both Piastri and Norris were questioning of the team's strategy as they kept Norris behind his Australian teammate, despite the former showing more pace in clean air.
"I was a little bit surprised, to be honest," Piastri shared in the post-race press conference. "I would have accepted it either way, but obviously there were a lot of concerns about tyres and track limits and stuff.
"So, I think getting second and third for the team was the most important thing."
The young Australian, while basking in the glory of his P2 finish and Sprint race victory, was not shy to delve into the challenges faced during the race, particularly highlighting the brutal weather conditions that the drivers had to navigate through.
"It was just extremely hot," Piastri recounted. "Even from the beginning, even before I put my helmet on, before the start of the race, I was sweating, and it definitely didn't get any better once I was driving."
He continued:
"So it was just very hot, and I think it was a combination of a lot of things, the humidity as well, having three stops meant we were pushing flat out and just the nature of the track.
"There's a lot of high-speed corners that just sort of naturally take its toll, but it was definitely the hardest race I've done."
The McLaren team orders, while ensuring a solid finish for both Piastri and Norris, have certainly been a point of discussion for fans and pundits regarding who they deem to be the leading driver. Right now, I believe it's the one wearing Papaya.
