Luckily, it looked as though the impact was slower than what it could have been and Gasly was able to get out of the car fairly swiftly and walk away from the incident. Fans could hear the Alpine driver apologise to the team on the radio saying, "Sorry, I locked up".

Alpine will now have a long night ahead of them to inspect and repair the car before the third and final free practice session tomorrow followed by qualifying. Despite the crash, Gasly put in the nineteenth fastest time with his teammate Esteban Ocon putting in the twelfth fastest time.

Max Verstappen has topped the timesheets in both Free Practice 1 and 2.
