F1 News: Red Bull Boss Hints At Alex Albon Interest - "Got The Experience Now"
Describing Williams driver Alex Albon as "Hot Property," Red Bull team principal Christian Horner is mighty impressed with the ex-Red Bull driver who has been under the lens of several F1 teams.
This is the same driver in question who was let go by Red Bull at the end of the 2020 season to pave the way for Sergio Perez, as he didn't match up to their expectations. Fortunately for the Thai-British driver, he found a seat with Williams in 2022 after a one-year gap as a reserve driver.

After scoring four points for the team in his debut season, Albon has progressed remarkably. With two more Grands Prix to go this year, he has earned an impressive 27 points for the Grove-based team.
Ex-boss Horner seems to have been noticing the progress from a distance. Despite there being almost zero chances of Albon getting back into Red Bull, Horner praised the 27-year-old driver. He said:
“Yeah, he’s brilliant.
“He’s fantastic and he did a fantastic job for us when he stepped down to be test driver.
“He never complained, he never moaned, he put in the hours, and I was really happy I was able to find him a seat in Williams and he’s found his form, he’s got the experience now, he’s toughened for sure and he’s a hot property again.”
Alex Albon Red Bull Demotion
Apart from Praising Albon, Horner also revealed the reason for his demotion from Red Bull, he added:
“I remember we were struggling at the time with Alex Albon.
“Because he had come in too soon and we just needed somebody.
“Checo [Sergio Perez] at the time at the end of ’20, he’d just won that race in Bahrain from the back of the grid, and it was like, ‘We need somebody with a chunk of experience, that brings another dimension to being Max’s team-mate’.”
However, fast forward to the end of 2023 and you'll notice that the tables have turned. Albon's position is well secured with Williams while Sergio Perez has fallen short of Red Bull's expectations.
As a result, the Mexican driver's downward trend in performance sparked speculations in the paddock that he might soon face the axe too. Despite rumors of Albon making it back into Red Bull, team advisor Helmut Marko clarified that he will not have a second chance with the team.
