In the dramatic Las Vegas Grand Prix, Sergio Perez showcased a resilient performance, battling back to a podium finish from P11. Despite losing the runner-up spot to Ferrari's Charles Leclerc in the closing stages, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner expressed immense pride in Perez's leap up the pack and solidifying his second place in the drivers' championship.

Key Takeaways:

  • Perez's Comeback: Despite early setbacks, including a collision and front wing damage, Perez made an impressive ascent from P11 to briefly hold second place.
  • Team Strategy: Red Bull's teamwork, particularly Verstappen's efforts to provide a tow to Perez, was a notable aspect, though it wasn't enough to secure second place for Perez.
  • Championship Impact: This race solidified Perez's position in the world championship, with Horner praising his recent form and the team achieving a historic first and second in the Drivers World Championship.

The Las Vegas Grand Prix added another thrilling chapter to the 2023 Formula 1 season. Sergio Perez, Red Bull's indomitable Mexican driver, faced a challenging start, colliding behind Valtteri Bottas, which resulted in front wing damage. However, demonstrating exceptional resilience and skill, Perez fought his way back into the race, even overtaking teammate Max Verstappen to secure the second position at one point.

In a gripping finale, Charles Leclerc managed to overtake Perez, relegating him to third place. Despite this, Christian Horner, Red Bull's team principal, was highly optimistic about Perez's performance. Speaking to Sky Sports, Horner praised Perez's remarkable recovery from the back of the grid and highlighted the strategic efforts made by the team, including Verstappen slowing down to offer Perez a tow.

"You get the benefit in the middle sector, you lose out if you're not in a DRS train," Horner said on his driver being overtaken by Leclerc. "Max was dropping back at the end of the race there to try and give him a bit of a tow.

"And it just wasn't quite enough today. But coming from the back of the grid, after a nose change on the first lap, I thought he drove a great run."

The race not only showcased Perez's driving talent but also cemented his position in the fight for the world championship. Lewis Hamilton is now unable to overtake Perez, a significant achievement for the Red Bull driver.

"Because as a team we've never achieved [this] before. I mean, what more can you ask for from your drivers than first and second in the Drivers World Championship?

"His pace was right there again today. So, the last two or three races, he's really been finding his form again."
