F1 News: Red Bull Team Chief Reveals He Is "Still In Recovery" From Controversial Abu Dhabi 2021
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has revealed that he is still recovering from the 2021 season which ended with the controversial Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which is one of the most debated races, saw Max Verstappen take his first championship win. Since then, both Verstappen and Red Bull have dominated the sport. The Dutch driver took his second championship win in 2022 with the Austrian team clinching their fifth constructors championship win.
During a recent interview with Motorsportweek.com, Horner was asked if he would want a repeat of a close championship like 2021 amid some complaints that the sport is becoming dull as it is much more predictable who will win. However, he was quick to respond with:
“There’s not one ounce of me, I think I’m still in recovery from 2021."
Horner went on to discuss the current performance of the team. Red Bull has won all twelve races of the 2023 season so far with Max Verstappen taking ten of those victories and Sergio Perez taking the remaining two. Horner described it as a "golden moment" for the team. He explained:
“Look results like today, it’s the combination of teamwork, it’s about every member of the team, every department in the factory doing their job, you don’t achieve these kind of results by accident.
“It’s a golden moment for our team and just absolutely take your hat off to everyone behind the scenes who is working as hard as they are to achieve this kind of performance.”
The F1 summer break will be ending with Verstappen's home race, the Dutch Grand Prix, on 25 - 27 August where they will be looking to continue the ongoing dominance.
