F1 News: Sebastian Vettel Gives Definitive Statement On Racing Return
Four-time F1 champion Sebastian Vettel has spoken out on his potential return to racing, confirming that he is "not in negotiations to drive in Formula E."
The German driver retired from Formula One at the end of the 2022 season after an incredibly successful and long career. He entered is F1 rookie season in 2007 with Toro Rosso before moving up to Red Bull in 2009. He achieved four consecutive championship wins with the Austrian team before moving on to Ferrari in 2015. After finding his time with the Maranello-based squad less successful for various reasons, Vettel moved to Aston Martin in 2021 where he stayed until retirement.
As soon as he left the sport, rumours started to circulate of where fans might see him next. There were rumours of him joining Formula One as a sustainability manager as the sport aims to become carbon neutral by 2030, but those were quickly shot down.
The most recent has been a rumour that he is joining Formula E to drive with ABT Cupra. However much some fans would love this to be true, Vettel has confirmed to Motorsport.com that this is not the case. He explained in a statement, which read:
"I am not in negotiations to drive in Formula E with ABT Cupra or with any other team. Words have been put in my mouth and I would like to clarify that I am not currently considering a return to motorsport."
The statement is clear that Vettel is taking his time to decide what to do next in his career whilst enjoying his retirement from motorsport. Despite the firm words, there is no doubt there will still be hope that the racing community will see him again in some capacity.
