Sergio Perez has come out in the open to reveal his plans for the future after recent rumours suggested that this would be the Mexican driver's last year with Red Bull and Formula 1 as a result of underperformance.

Perez's second half of the 2023 season has been riddled with doubts over his continuation with Red Bull considering his clumsy moves and slow pace, especially the embarrassing double DNF episode in Japan that happened a few weeks ago.

However, a rumour sparked this week from a figure linked to Escudería Telmex, which Perez is a member of, suggesting that Red Bull would end their contract with the Mexican driver by the end of this year.

Talks have been said to take place between Perez and the Milton Keynes outfit on the week between the Japan and Qatar Grand Prix. In short, the report tells us that the 33-year-old racer, who has been a part of Formula 1 for a long time, would opt for a graceful exit from the sport itself after being informed by Red Bull of their decision to not retain him beyond the year-end.

But, a latest update from the man himself has put an end to the rumours surrounding his exit from Red Bull and Formula 1. In fact, the Mexican driver claims that he has another 3-4 years to offer the sport. He said:

“Well, right now I have a contract for next year. And it will be important to have a good year.

"I have the motivation to continue, and I want to stay for more years.

"Because I believe that I still have a lot to give in Formula 1.

"I would like to stay in F1 for at least 3-4 more years.”

With five more rounds left to go for 2023, there's no better person than him who understands the urgency to produce better results. After all, his team's minimum requirement from a driver is second place in the championship standings.

Considering his current position, title winner Max Verstappen is over 200 points ahead of Perez in P2. But, the dominance of the RB19 doesn't make the latter's position safe from any angle after looking at the possibilities of Lewis Hamilton or Fernando Alonso overtaking him before the season ends.

Consequently, the next five races of the season would most likely be the five most important races of his career.

Speaking of his future in Formula 1, there remains no reason why he cannot race in the future unless he decides to end his journey. If not now but, in the future, there would certainly be teams on the grid longing for his services.
