F1 News: Sergio Perez Tired - "It's Been Really Intense"
Sergio Perez, the Mexican driver who has lacked pace as of late, kicked off the Belgian Grand Prix from the front of the grid, ahead of his teammate Max Verstappen. However, the tables turned as the unstoppable Dutchman quickly dispatched the field from P6. Despite finishing second and gaining a commendable 18 points to his tally, Perez admitted that he's in need of a break admitting, "it's been really intense".
Perez recounted the racing events at Spa-Francorchamps, expressing his team's success:
"It was a good race for the team," he said in a post-race interview. "We had a great start and managed to get through Charles, which was one of the targets of today.
"From then on, I was just doing my own race and Max came through in the second stint pretty fast. There was nothing I could have done there."
Sharing his personal sentiments about the recent series of events, Perez highlighted the significance of the upcoming summer break in resuming his usual level of performance.
"It’s been a bit of a rough patch, but we overcome and today we managed to score great points for the team. I really need the summer break. It’s been really intense for the last few races. I look forward to it and will come back very strong," voiced out the Red Bull driver.
Despite these challenges, Perez still holds a strong standing, albeit falling quite behind in the duel with Verstappen for the global title. His point tally keeps him comfortably ahead of Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso, who currently stands number three in the world championship.
The summer break would indeed be a good time for Perez to recharge, rethink strategies and bounce back stronger in the following races.
