F1 News: Sir Jackie Stewart Suffers Stroke - "I Just Dropped"

The 'Flying Scot' suffered a mild stroke at a Royal Wedding but looks forward to attending the British GP.

Former F1 driver and Team Principal Sir Jackie Stewart lost consciousness the night before the royal wedding of Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan and Rajwa Al Saif.

Also known as 'The Flying Scot' from his F1 days, the 84-year-old gentleman revealed that he woke up in the night feeling strange and then suddenly dropped unconscious.

Eventually, the legend was taken to the hospital by son Paul and his wife where it was declared that he suffered a mild stroke. The health emergency occurred five weeks ago.

Fortunately, Sir Jackie Stewart has fully recovered and has resumed other activities. The brave man will be attending the British Grand Prix where he expects Max Verstappen to win the race.

Talking to the Daily Mail about the ordeal he went through, Sir Jackie Stewart said:

"This was the night before the wedding. I got up in the night feeling strange. I just dropped. And then I can’t remember. I was unconscious for quite a long time.

"My son Paul and his wife were there for the wedding, in a bedroom on a different floor. To this day, I don’t know how I got to Paul’s room, but I must have been somewhat alert to get hold of him.

"They got me into an ambulance, but I have no recall of that either. His Majesty got the best doctors available for me.

"I wanted to get home as fast as possible, and the Crown Prince of Bahrain very generously gave his aircraft to fly me back to Europe. By then I was pretty much okay. I wasn't walking very well, though."

The F1 legend also revealed that his hectic schedule for the past few weeks before the health scare might have contributed to the stroke. Luckily though, Sir Jackie Stewart is back in action, especially with 'Race Against Dementia'- a campaign that he set up after his wife Helen was diagnosed with Dementia.
