Max Verstappen's Hungarian Grand Prix trophy has been revealed to be worth an insane €40,000.

Verstappen was celebrating his ninth win of the 2023 season on the podium alongside Lando Norris and Sergio Perez who finished in second and third place, respectively. Whilst the celebrations were ongoing, Norris hit his champagne bottle on the first-place podium to make the drink shower out. However, this caused the trophy to topple off and smash into two pieces.

There was no bad blood between the two drivers as they were both seen laughing about the awkward moment shortly afterwards.

F1 journalist Sándor Mészáros has since confirmed to social media:

"The #HungarianGP trophies are made by Herendi Porcelanmanufaktura Zrt. All are handmade, production time is approximately six months and it costs ~ 40.000 euros."

Although the move was clearly accidental from the McLaren driver, some fans were quick to criticise. One fan commented:

"It's a beautiful trophy and what Lando did is disrespectful for the people who worked hard on it. I would love to have something from their shop but I doubt I can afford it"

"Norris did exactly the same in Silverstone, that trophy was simply more durable and didn’t break. He doesn’t learn. I like his “cool, don’t care” mentality, but he has his childish moments from time to time."

Although others saw the lighter side of it. Another fan commented that either Norris or McLaren will have to pay for a replacement, although it is currently not known if this would happen or if it will be replaced at all.

"It was an accident lus 40K is a drop in the bucket. Im sure Lando or McLaren will pay for a replacement. It ain't that deep" [sic]

"A replacement/replica will be commissioned & the invoice sent to Lando so It’s all good !!"
