F1 News: Williams Handed Fine After Canadian Grand Prix Qualifying

Williams has been given a fine after the Canadian Grand Prix qualifying session.

Williams has been handed a fine of $10,000 ($5,000 per driver) after the tumultuous qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix.

The British team has gone into the weekend with significant upgrades on Alex Albon's FW-45 but not on his new teammate Logan Sargeant's. The team has advised that if the upgrades are successful, then the American rookie will not get them on his car until the British Grand Prix which is early July.

Albon had a fantastic qualifying session, even putting himself on provisional pole position during Q2 which put all Williams fans on the edge of their seats. The British-Thai driver ended up qualifying in tenth position for the race tomorrow after having a lap time deleted during Q3.

However, the team has run into trouble after the session after they were summoned to the stewards for failing to return their tyres for both Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant's cars to Pirelli before qualifying, which is mandatory in order for them to be tested.

It has now been revealed that the team has been handed a fine of $10,000 ($5,000 per driver) for the mistake. Thankfully they were not given any grid penalties, so their starting positions won't change from this. Sargeant is due to start from nineteenth.

A handful of other drivers have also been summoned to the stewards and face potential penalties. This includes, Nico Hulkenberg, Carlos Sainz, Lance Stroll, and Yuki Tsunoda.
