F1 News: Williams Reveals Striking Las Vegas GP Livery With Nod To The Iconic City

The special livery features the 'Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas' sign.

Williams Racing has unveiled its special theme for the Las Vegas Grand Prix on its FW45 F1 cars. Marking the sport's return to the Strip after roughly 40 years, the Livery features the popular 'Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas.'

While no major changes have been made to the color, a few prominent touches to the theme have made the car Vegas-ready. The biggest highlight of the design that grabs attention rather instantly is the ‘Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas' sign and the cabochon lights toward the rear of the car.

The sign has become a symbol for Las Vegas over the years since it has been featured in several Hollywood movies that sported scenes from the Strip. In addition, the bright blue illuminated Williams lettering goes in line with the iconic Neon Boneyard, serving as a tribute to the vibrant electric energy of Las Vegas, spanning the engine cover and rear wing endplates.

The team secured victory in one of the two previous Formula 1 races conducted in Las Vegas. Alan Jones emerged triumphant in the inaugural Caesars' Palace Grand Prix in 1981, a day marked by both success and setbacks for the team. Carlos Reutemann, the team's other driver, missed out on the world championship title, which went to rival Nelson Piquet.

The team revealed that the livery celebrates its racing ties with the United States. In addition, it also marks the final home race of the season for driver Logan Sargeant, whose future with the team still remains to be a big question mark.

Revealing the special livery, Williams stated on its official website:

"Williams Racing is delighted to unveil its special livery for the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix, marking the sport’s return to Sin City for the first time in over 40 years.

"The livery takes inspiration from the famed showmanship of Vegas, featuring the ‘Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas’ sign and the cabochon lights that have brought the desert to life throughout its history. The illuminated Williams lettering is a nod to the iconic Neon Boneyard, completing an homage to the electric energy of Vegas across the engine cover and rear wing endplates.

"As the final home race for driver Logan Sargeant and the team, this livery celebrates Williams Racing’s American ties and the excitement of racing in Vegas under the lights for the very first time."
