Yuki Tsunoda has opened up on his AlphaTauri contract which is currently due to expire at the end of the 2023 season, hinting that discussions are yet to take place between him and the Red Bull family.

AlphaTauri is in an interesting position with no drivers currently confirmed for 2024 and four different drivers being in place for 2023. The season started off with Tsunoda and rookie Nyck de Vries, however, the latter was dismissed after just ten races and was immediately replaced by Red Bull third driver Daniel Ricciardo. The Australian driver enjoyed two races back before breaking his wrist during FP2 of the Dutch Grand Prix weekend seeing him replaced by reserve driver Liam Lawson.

During an interview with RacingNews365, the Japanese driver explained that he would like to stay within the Red Bull family, however, the ball seems to be in their court. He commented:

"It would be nice if I could be able to stay at Red Bull.

"But to be honest, these things I don't know. They will decide it and I just have focus on what I have to do and make the result and naturally those two things will come."

When asked about the rumours surrounding Sergio Perez's future with Red Bull, Tsunoda explained that he doesn't think about the things that do not concern him. He continued:

"I don't try to think about those things, maybe I can step up to Red Bull.

"Those are things that you never know. So it's useless to think about those things, I'm just focused on what I'm doing and keep delivering my results.

"I want to focus more on showing my value as a driver, not just for this Red Bull but also for the other teams, which is the most important thing. That is my target."
