Former F1 driver turned pundit Johnny Herbert has spoken out on what the sport is missing from not having seven-time champion Michael Schumacher a part of it anymore as well as the impact this has had on Mick Schumacher's F1 career.

It is coming up to ten years since the F1 icon's horrific skiing accident. The German driver suffered from severe head injuries when he was skiing in December 2013 which subsequently left him in a coma until the summer of 2014. Schumacher has been continuing his recovery since then in the privacy of his family home.

The Schumacher family has remained extremely private since then with official updates on the driver's condition rare and visitors limited.

The seven-time champion is widely considered one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time and his influence on the sport nowadays would be huge, not to mention the impact it would have on his son Mick's career who is currently the reserve driver for Mercedes.

Michael Schumacher - Ferrari

During an interview with Casinosite.nl, Herbert was asked what the sport has lost from not having Schumacher around. He explained that the sport has "lost a mega star". Herbert responded:

“We have lost a mega star of our sport who gave so much enjoyment to a lot of people. It was very sad that Mick couldn’t have his Dad around and it is sad that we as an F1 community don’t have him around the paddock.

“It is a shame. Everyone loses out on learning about the Michael Schumacher we never saw when he was in the cockpit.”

Mick Schumacher - Mercedes

Herbert was also asked on is he see's Mick securing another full-time seat in F1 after he lost his spot on the Haas team at the end of 2022. Herbert claims that Mick is in a difficult position and that "no one is going to talk about him". He explained:

“I think Mick Schumacher is in one of those horrible F1 situations that he probably did not impress enough when he was at Haas. And because of that he is damaged. And no-one is going to talk about him.”
