Former F1 journalist Matt Bishop has shared a passage from Haas team principal Guenther Steiner's new book, Surviving To Drive.

Taking to Twitter, Bishop wrote, proudly:

"I’m chuffed by this name-check in my old pal Guenther Steiner’s new book #SurvivingToDrive. #LGBTQ+ inclusion & equality are important in all walks of life, including sport & therefore #F1, & it’s good to see a current F1 Team Principal stand up & be counted. #WeRaceAsOne"

Steiner wrote in the book:

"A friend of mine is the former F1 journalist and PR chief Matt Bishop. He is a gay man and he is of the opinion that it is better to go to these places and be part of the change than to boycott them.

"It's a brave thing for him to do, you know. Especially in a country where it is illegal to be homosexual.

"It is the right thing to do, though, and I, and I'm sure everyone in Formula 1, stands with Matt and the LGBTQ+ community."

Fans have been celebrating the excerpt from the book, one commented:

"Absolutely can’t agree more! I can’t wait to get my hands on this book tomorrow"

Another fan responded to Bishop, writing:

"You seem to have made quite an impression on Those Haas boys. First in Kevin’s [Magnussen] book, and now in Guenther’s. Something tells me you’ll be in Seb’s [Sebastian Vettel] book as well. Humans comes in all shapes, forms and personalities and the world should embrace us all."

Someone else commented:

"That’s great. It still bewilders me that certain parts of society continue to obsess about others lives and what doesn’t concern them and all the moral posturing that ensues. The more we all vocalize things the less the vapid voice loses its clarion cry."

"Why people love Guenther. From the heart and always does the right thing, even when it’s a tough call. Legend."
