Fans have hit out at F1 for the unplanned four-week break from racing between the Australian GP and Azerbaijan GP.

The original plan was to have the Chinese Grand Prix in the middle of the two races, however, the race was cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions. Despite the local restrictions lifting at the beginning of the year, the risk to the teams and drivers was still considered to be too high so the race was not reinstated.

There had been talks of a replacement race with Portugal interested in taking the slot on the calendar. However, with there already being a record number of races on the line-up with 23, it was decided to leave a gap.

Taking to social media, F1 posted a video with the caption:

"When it's Monday, but there's no race week"

This unfortunately did not go down well with fans who are clearly not enjoying the break from the adrenaline-fuelled sport. One fan responded:

"It's your fault. This week it should be Chinese GP or any other."

Another user suggested only have breaks of two weeks and ending the season earlier in the year. They wrote:

"Instead of having more races we should have the same amount without moths breaks. 2 weeks break is good enough, finish the season of earlier."

Another disgruntled fan wrote that it was F1's decision to have the break so they shouldn't be complaining about it, writing:

"Bruh y’all tweeting like you guys weren’t the ones who decided the calendar"

Someone else commented:

"Waiting 3 weeks for the next week when F1 could've added a circuit"

Making things a little more extreme, someone else commented that it "should be illegal to have a month break so early in the F1 season". They wrote:

"It’s not race week… It’s not race week next week… It should be illegal to have a month break so early into the F1 season"

The F1 continues on 28-30 April for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, followed by the Miami Grand Prix on 5-7 May and the Emilia Romagna GP on 19-21 May.
