Fernando Alonso took third place on the podium at the Australian Grand Prix.

The Spanish driver's spot on the podium was thrown up into the air when the race was restarted and Carlos Sainz collided with him putting Alonso to the back of the pack. However, there were multiple collisions in the chaotic restart causing yet another red flag.

Luckily for Alonso, the race was restarted in the same line-up as the previous restart so he continued in third.

Speaking in his post-race interview with David Coulthard, Alonso said:

"We have a rollercoaster of emotions today and many things going on at the beginning.

"But then also the end now, the last half an hour, it was difficult to understand what's going on but the race itself was good for us in terms of pace. I think Mercedes were very fast and did an incredible job today so I couldn't match the pace or not get close enough but we take P3.

"The first red flag did help us because George [Russell] and Carlos [Sainz] came in so we took those places for free. And the second red flag probably didn't help obviously with the incident there. But we got lucky again and we got another opportunity now to just see the chequered flag in P3."

Alonso has finished third in the first three races of the season, when asked what his next goal is, he responded:

"Higher up on the podium because three third places. Let's go for a second place at least."
