Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso had a brilliant weekend at the Australian Grand Prix, taking home his third podium finish this season despite the race's dramatic end. But while his on-track performance was positive, his Instagram story shared news that wasn't so good.

Posting a photo of himself alongside his long-term partner Andrea Schlager, the couple announced that their relationship is coming to an end. The caption read:

"We wanted to tell you that our relationship as a couple ended. We have been lucky enough to share a fantastic time together, and it will continue to be so, but on a different form of affection.

"As you have probably seen, we have continued working on and off track on various projects together also during this time, and we will keep doing so with deep love and respect for each other.

"We thought it is appropriate to share this as you have all been very supportive. Thanks for that. Love Fer & Andrea."

Andrea, a sports commentator who has a history in the F1 paddock, reportedly met the Spanish racing driver through her F1 commitments. And while very little is known about their relationship with it being kept out of the public eye for the most part, fans of the driver will be feeling for the pair with many already sharing their support on social media.

With a short break in the F1 calendar now beginning, this will allow all the drivers to clear their heads after a difficult weekend in Melbourne. We're hoping Aston Martin can come back even stronger when they return to the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Bring on Baku!
