New Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur has spoken about the teams 'wobbly' rear wing which received a lot of attention during Free Practice 1 ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Vasseur joined the Maranello-based squad this year after Mattia Binotto stepped down after the 2022 season. The team struggled with reliability issues and many strategical errors last year which they will be looking to put behind them. Despite this, the team finished in second place in the constructors' standings with Charles Leclerc second in the drivers' championship.

The new Ferrari team chief was asked why they decided to run with that particular rear wing during practice. Vasseur explained:

"It's a test item that we were not able to do last week.

"It would have been better to do it in the other one but we didn't. And we wanted to test it this morning and that was not so positive in itself.

He continued:

"We won't try it again during the weekend but we'll be back soon with this concept.

Sky Sports reporter Martin Brundle has indicated that the FIA may decide to investigate the team over the rear wing, however, nothing has been confirmed with this at the moment.

The third and final practice session will take place tomorrow before qualifying in the afternoon and the first race of the 2023 season on Sunday.
