Helmut Marko: Red Bull has hired a psychologist for "problem child" Tsunoda
Yuki Tsunoda has shown some reasonable pace this season, generally holding his own against Pierre Gasly. However, his recent errors in Canada and Britain mean he is still under pressure to perform and make corrections.
Franz Tost said a few weeks ago that Alpha Tauri's 2023 lineup would be unchanged, but in an academy as ruthless as Red Bull's, there is no guarantee until a contract is signed.
Helmut Marko told Servus TV that Red Bull has hired a psychologist to work with Tsunoda, as quoted by autosport.com:
"We have organised a kind of psychologist to work with him because he continues to rant in the corners, so that inhibits performance.
We should keep our emotions in check. Thank God Max is calm.
Our problem child in this respect, not only in this respect, is Tsunoda. He explodes on the radio."
Red Bull's current crop in Formula 2 are yet to put in the performances Tsunoda managed as a rookie in the series, so there are no obvious or immediate threats to his seat.
With that said, Tsunoda will not feel especially comfortable at Alpha Tauri, as Helmut Marko and the Red Bull team continue to scrutinise his position within the team.
There are three rounds left in July, so Tsunoda still has the opportunity to string together some good results and put himself in a better place for contract negotiations over the summer.
