Lewis Hamilton has taken pole position for the Hungarian Grand Prix tomorrow.

Joining the Mercedes driver at the front of the grid are Max Verstappen and Lando Norris who will be starting from second and third position, respectively.

In contrast to FP1 yesterday, the qualifying session started with blue skies and no sign of rain. The Hungarian GP weekend is hosting the trial of a new qualifying format which means the drivers must use hard compound tyres during Q1, medium compounds in Q2, and soft tyres in Q3.

The issue of track limits has cropped up again this weekend with Kevin Magnussen being the first to have a lap time deleted during qualifying, followed by Oscar Piastri, Alex Albon, and Logan Sargeant.

Out in Q1

  1. Alex Albon
  2. Yuki Tsunoda
  3. George Russell
  4. Kevin Magnussen
  5. Logan Sargeant

Daniel Ricciardo proved Red Bull made the right decision bringing him to the team last-minute as he out-qualified his AlphaTauri teammate Yuki Tsunoda. The Australian driver replaced Nyck de Vries last week with immediate effect.

Lance Stroll is due to be investigated by the stewards after the session for potentially impeding Valtteri Bottas during Q1.

Max Verstappen put himself in provisional pole only to have his lap time deleted putting him in the elimination zone. Although, with eight minutes to go of Q2, this shouldn't be an issue for the Dutchman.

Out in Q2

  1. Carlos Sainz
  2. Esteban Ocon
  3. Daniel Ricciardo
  4. Lance Stroll
  5. Pierre Gasly
