Jean Todt Gives Emotional Michael Schumacher Update - "He Is Not The Michael Of Before"
Offering an update on Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher, his former boss Jean Todt revealed that the seven-time world champion is not the same man he was ten years ago before his near-fatal skiing incident.
Todt is one among a few close friends and family members who are allowed to meet Schumacher back at his home. The end of December marks ten years since the F1 icon's serious accident. Since then, he has been looked after by his wife Corinna, who has maintained privacy about his health condition.
Consequently, no health update has ever reached the media. In fact, fans are not even aware of Schumacher's present condition. Now though, the former Ferrari team principal has offered an update on his ex-driver, explaining how his life has changed drastically. Todt told L'Equipe:
“Michael [Schumacher] is here, so I don't miss him.
"But he is not the Michael of before.
"He is different and he is wonderful manner assisted by his wife and children, who protect him.
"His life has changed and I am privileged to be able to share moments with him from time to time.
"There is nothing more to say.
"Unfortunately, fate struck ten years ago, and he is no longer the Michael we know from Formula 1."
In the Netflix documentary on Schumacher, his son Mick Schumacher made a touching revelation about the present father-son relationship. He said:
"I think dad and me, we would understand each other now in a different way.
"Simply because we speak a similar language, the language of motorsport. And that we would have so much more to talk about.
"That's where my head is most of the time. Thinking that it would be cool.
"I would give up everything just for that."
His wife Corinna also added that she and the family miss Schumacher every day. She added:
"I miss Michael every day. But it's not just me who misses him.
"It's the children, the family, his father, everyone around him.
"Everybody misses Michael, but Michael is here - different, but here. He still shows me how strong he is every day."
