Kevin Magnussen Shocking Admission After Australian Grand Prix Crash: "Didn't Even Feel It"
Haas driver Kevin Magnussen was on to a good race at the Australian Grand Prix last weekend, but it quickly came to an end after he hit the wall on Turn 2 and lost tyre. Talking after the race, the Danish racing driver has now detailed exactly what went wrong, while questioning how he lost the tyre in the first place.
“I brushed the wall at the exit of Turn 2 and the rim broke, the tire came off and I had to stop. I didn’t even feel it so it definitely wasn’t something that felt big in the car, but it was enough to crack the rim and take the tire off.
"It’s unfortunate, we were in P12 I think at that time and it didn’t look like I was going to be able to score points.
Continuing, the driver also added that he and his teammate Nico Hulkenberg were unlucky with the first red flag of the race as Alex Albon crashed his Williams.
"We got unlucky with the first red flag as we had just pitted from P11 and we seemed to be quicker than the next couple of cars so I was quite confident at that stage of the race. Then we pitted under the safety car and just afterwards, it turned to a red flag.
Everyone put their tyres on to go to the end of the race and we were last. It wasn’t my day but it seemed like the car had decent pace so I’m encouraged by that and we’ll push next time.”
Haas currently sit 7th in the Constructor standings ahead of Alfa Romeo, AlphaTauri, and Williams, and another point would have seen them match Alpine. But it wasn't to be as the Melbourne race unravelled into chaos. Despite this, Haas thoroughly commands the back of the grid, but to push further up the pack, they'll need to make some serious changes.
