Las Vegas GP Results: Max Verstappen Wins After Exciting Inaugural Race
Max Verstappen won the Las Vegas Grand Prix after an exciting and dramatic race.
Joining the Red Bull driver on the podium were Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez who crossed the line in second and third position, respectively.
After a chaotic first corner which saw Max Verstappen take the lead from Charles Leclerc and contact between Valtteri Bottas, Fernando Alonso, and Carlos Sainz, a safety car was put on the session when Lando Norris crashed into the barrier and ended his race. Thankfully, Norris was okay and was able to get out of the MCL60 quickly.
Penalty: Max Verstappen was handed a 5-second penalty for pushing Leclerc off the track at the first corner.
Lap 16: Leclerc takes the lead of the race back from the Red Bull driver.
After a small amount of contact with Oscar Piastri, Lewis Hamilton suffered from a puncture and later reported to his Mercedes team that the car was not stopping. The British driver, luckily, was able to get the car back to the pit and continue with the race.
Verstappen and George Russell later had some contact which saw damage to the RB19 causing another safety car due to the debris on the track.
Penalty: George Russell received a 5-second penalty for causing a collision with Verstappen.
Lap 32: Sergio Perez became the third race leader after overtaking Leclerc.
Lap 35: Leclerc re-took the lead of the race.
Lap 37: Verstappen takes the lead of the race once again.
