Lewis Hamilton Could Break This Incredible Record At The Bahrain Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton is gearing up for a potential comeback at the Bahrain Grand Prix this weekend, which will be kicking off the 2023 season. With the season right around the corner, Hamilton has set his sights on breaking yet another record.
Last season proved to be a challenging one for the Mercedes team, as they struggled with numerous issues concerning the W13 cars. As a result, it was the first year since the inception of the hybrid era that they failed to win the constructor's championship. Additionally, it was the first season in Hamilton's illustrious career where he failed to win a single race.
Despite the team's struggles, they were able to make significant strides towards the end of the season. These developments were particularly noteworthy as they saw Hamilton's teammate, George Russell, win his first-ever F1 race at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Russell was dubbed "Mr. Consistency" for his impressive top-five finishes in 19 out of the 22 races.
Interestingly, Hamilton celebrated his 300th grand prix during the 2022 season, and it's worth noting that no driver has ever won a race after entering their 300th F1 race. However, Hamilton is keen on breaking that record and achieving yet another milestone in his career.
During an interview at the beginning of the year, the seven-time champion said to Formula 1 Magazine when they pointed out this fact:
“But there has never been a driver like me either."
Hamilton went on to reflect on the struggles of 2022, explaining:
“We wanted to hit back after 2021. That was what our drive came from.
“But at one point I thought, ‘God, with this car I really can't fight for the title.’
“If I can say anything about last year, it’s that as a team we’ve only become more resilient and determined.”
The British driver made his F1 debut in 2007 and has had one of the most successful careers, achieving seven championship wins, 103 race wins, 191 podium finishes, 103 pole positions, and has 4405.5 points under his belt, according to Grand Tour Nation.
Hamilton is one of six drivers who have entered over 300 races. Fernando Alonso, who is embarking on his first season with Aston Martin in 2023, has taken part in 335 F1 races. Kimi Raikkonen entered 349 races, Rubens Barrichello had 322, and Michael Schumacher and Jenson Button both raced in 306.
