After a tough 2022 season, Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes had a promising start to the 2023 season at the Australian Grand Prix, as the seven-time world champion battled it out with his rivals Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso. Hamilton initially overtook Verstappen in a daring move, but the Dutchman ultimately came out on top bringing home his second win and third podium position of the season so far. Now, he's been told by an F1f inside Ted Kravitz that he should "be aggressive with Verstappen".

Kravitz commented on the situation, saying that it was fascinating to see Hamilton in a position where he must take risks and be aggressive, instead of playing it safe with the fastest car on the grid.

“What’s fascinating to me is, we now have a complete flip of the Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton seasons from 2014 to 2021, when Hamilton has been going for the championship, knowing he has the fastest car and needs to play it safe,” Kravitz said on the Sky Sports F1 podcast.

“You had the upstart Verstappen challenging him and wanting to get in there. And now you’ve got Hamilton challenging Verstappen, saying, ‘It’s no cares given, I’m out there to take all the risks’, putting it back on the defending champion

“Hamilton knows he’s not going to win the championship this year, not unless something really weird happens, so he can go in there and be aggressive with Verstappen, knowing that he is probably going to have to give way.”

Red Bull's pace advantage over the rest of the grid has made them a dominant force this season and their grip on the Constructors' title after eight years of Mercedes dominance shows that they have unlocked something in their car that is truly potent.

While Verstappen and Sergio Perez battle it out for the Drivers' Championship, Hamilton and his Brackley squad must find a way to close the gap if he wants to remain in contention - potentially with the upgrades the team is bringing to the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
