Lewis Hamilton has outright denied approaching Christian Horner for a Red Bull seat while reaffirming his commitment to Mercedes with a recent contract extension. His focus now shifts to the challenging Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Key Takeaways:

  • Hamilton Refutes Red Bull Approach: Hamilton clarified, “I’ve not approached Christian; I haven’t spoken to Christian for years... He had reached out to me about meeting up at the end of the season.”
  • Continued Alliance with Mercedes: Hamilton confirmed his loyalty to Mercedes with a two-year contract extension, quashing rumors of a team change.
  • Focus on Abu Dhabi Grand Prix: Ahead of the Grand Prix, Hamilton said, “I wish we weren’t in the position we were in... But I guess it means we’ve got to work harder this weekend and I am definitely excited for the battle.”

In a direct address to recent rumours of someone from either his team, or Lewis himself, reaching out to Red Bull for a seat, the British driver stated:

“I’ve not approached Christian; I haven’t spoken to Christian for years and no one from my team has. I’ve checked with everyone, no one from my team has reached out to him. However, he had reached out to me about meeting up at the end of the season.”

This statement contradicts potentially fake reports from the likes of the Daily Mail suggesting that Hamilton was seeking a move to Red Bull and reinforces his continued association with Mercedes, in which he has a 2-year contract.

Regarding the upcoming Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Hamilton expressed a blend of regret and determination, remarking:

“I wish we weren’t in the position we were in... But I guess it means we’ve got to work harder this weekend and I am definitely excited for the battle.”

Mercedes will be wanting to utilise every bit of learning on the track this weekend, with their attention now fully on next year's car.
