Max Verstappen Continues Rage At George Russell Clash: "It Doesn't Make Sense"
Max Verstappen, the Dutchman and current leader this season, started third on the grid and had high hopes for winning the sprint race. Unfortunately, his dreams were shattered, a bit like his Red Bull sidepod, after a collision with George Russell on the first lap. As a result, the damage sustained prevented him from fighting for the win with team chief Christian Horner expecting the damage to add 3/4 of a second onto each lap.
Verstappen expressed his frustration after a heated discussion with the British Mercedes driver.
"I just don't understand why you need to take so much risk on lap one understeering into my sidepod," he told George immediately after the race. "We all have cold tyres, and it's easy to lock up."
Verstappen didn't take kindly to this...
The Red Bull driver commented after the race on what happened:
Separately,he added:
“No, it’s not clarified. “I just don’t understand why you need to take so much risk on Lap 1.
“He understeered into my sidepod, created a hole. We all have cold tyres, it’s all easy to lock up…but you know, his beautiful way of explaining ‘oh mate, you know, I locked up, oh look at the board’…. well, it doesn’t make sense, but it’s fine.
“We still got into P3, got some good points, but it is what it is.
“No, not the wall. Just Turn 2 where he tapped me. There’s a hole in the sidepod. It doesn’t look that great, but it is what it is and we’ll concentrate on tomorrow.”
A good result in points for Verstappen despite this setback, Verstappen still managed to cross the finish line third with his teammate taking the win.
