Max Verstappen has kicked off the season in high gear, securing a win and a P2 podium finish to claim his spot atop the drivers’ standings ahead of teammate Sergio Perez

With a car that’s been dubbed the best ever by some, it’s no wonder Verstappen is poised to take home this year’s championship. But the 2-time champion isn't happy just dominating the physical sport. No, merely hours after the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, the Dutch sensation was seen dominating a host of iRacing events, too, with him taking home 10 more wins out of the 10 races he joined.

From Saudi Arabia to iRacing Glory

In a blink-and-you-missed-it moment, Verstappen was spotted in sim races not even 24 hours after wrapping up his Saudi Arabian campaign. A keen-eyed Reddit user revealed that the 25-year-old F1 champion was competing in GT3 iRacing, driving none other than a Ferrari 488 GT3 EVO 2020. With a reported 10 wins in 10 races, it’s clear that Verstappen is the king of both the physical and digital tarmac.

Friendly Competition with Ferrari

Maybe ironically, Verstappen’s virtual success came at the wheel of a car from his real-life rivals, Ferrari. The Italian team may be struggling on the F1 circuit, but at least they can claim a virtual win thanks to Verstappen’s sim racing prowess.

Both Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz are lower than expected on the Driver Standings with the SF-23 struggling with performance and reliability so far this season while Red Bull are showing incredible dominance despite Max's issue in Q2 of last weekend. Adrian Newey, the aerodynamicist behind the RB23 is legend of the sport, indeed.

From Racing to FIFA, Verstappen Loves It All

The two-time world champion is obviously a big fan of video games. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner revealed that Verstappen once indulged in a 14-hour FIFA marathon during the 2021 US Grand Prix weekend. Under the cover of anonymity, the Dutchman climbed to 21st in the FUT rankings and relished playing against unsuspecting gamers.

Expanding His Virtual Racing Horizons

Aside from FIFA, Verstappen often dabbles in other virtual racing competitions to better understand cars from different series. He’s been known to take on professional sim racers and, more often than not, leave them in his digital dust. The Red Bull ace even participated in this year’s virtual 24-hour Le Mans, though his run ended on a sour note.

Unstoppable in 2023

Verstappen’s dominance in 2023 is undeniable, racking up 44 points and leaving his teammate just one point behind thanks to taking home fastest lap at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

As Max Verstappen blazes a trail in both the real and virtual racing worlds, one can’t help but wonder: How long will his reign last? With rumours of retirement from the Dutchman, only time will tell.
