George Russell has shared a valuable piece of advice with the new Mercedes reserve driver, Mick Schumacher ahead of the 2023 season.

During the winter break, Schumacher joined the Silver Arrows after being let go by Haas, who chose to partner Kevin Magnussen with Nico Hulkenberg who is making a return to a permanent seat after being the Aston Martin reserve driver.

Schumacher's role for the upcoming season will be to use his on-track experience with the new generation F1 cars to assist his teammates, Lewis Hamilton and Russell, in the simulator, as well as to provide backup for Mercedes and McLaren in case any of their drivers are unable to race.

During an interview with Auto Motor und Sport, Russell explained:

"I am sure there are things we can learn from him.

"For him, seeing how this team operates, seeing how Lewis and I work together and with the engineers will probably be useful for him.

"If I was in Mick's shoes, I would be working super hard in the simulator here in Brackley, trying to integrate yourself well with the team."

Last season, Mercedes suffered a setback with multiple issues on the W13 cars and dropped to third place in the constructors' standings, with the team only able to boast of Russell's first F1 victory in Brazil as an achievement.

Looking ahead to the highly-anticipated 2023 season, the British driver continued:

"We need top-quality drivers as often as possible, Mick is one of them.

"He needs to be locking himself in that room and doing the laps."

Mercedes will be unveiling the 2023 W14 cars during an event tomorrow held at Silverstone and streamed live online. The event is set to feature Russell, Hamilton, Schumacher, and team principal and CEO Toto Wolff.
