Michael Andretti Confirms They Are "Already Building Team" In Quest To Join F1 Grid In 2025
Michael Andretti was at the Miami Grand Prix this weekend and had an opportunity to give an update on the process of hopefully joining the F1 grid in 2025.
During the pre-race grid walk, Andretti spoke to Sky Sports F1's Martin Brundle explaining that although they are still going through the process with the FIA, they have already begun building the team in the background to be able to be prepared if and when they do get approval.
Andretti Autosport previously announced that they were putting their hat in the ring to be considered as an eleventh team in Formula One. They have partnered up with Cadillac to bring an 'All-American' team.
When asked by Brundle asked if he was still hoping for an entry in 2025, Andretti responded:
“That’s our goal. We’re working on it.
“We have that process that we’re in the middle of with the FIA. We’re submitting our paperwork this week, and hopefully getting an answer middle of July. So we’re making good progress.
“We’re already doing [a lot of work]. It’s already happening. We’re building a team as we speak.”
There have already been rumours of potential drivers for the hopeful team, including Colton Herta who is currently in contract with Andretti for the IndyCar series.
The FIA has not accepted any applications for a new team at the moment, and there has been a mixed response from the current teams on the grid with concerns over an additional team diluting the pot of prize money.
We are expecting to hear about decisions from the FIA later this year as to what we can expect from the 2025 and 2026 F1 grid.
