McLaren has not had the start to the 2023 season they wanted with rookie driver Oscar Piastri having to retire from the race within the first 15 laps of the race.

Piastri's teammate Lando Norris had already encountered pneumatic issues early on in the race. However, he is continuing on at the moment although it is looking as though the Belgian-British driver may have a similar end to Piastri.

The Australian driver headed into the pits as he complained of a gearbox issue. The team quickly replaced the steering wheel but Piastri was unable to get the car going again. We later heard from McLaren CEO Zak Brown who explained that they believe the issue was electrical but they were still investigating.

The team subsequently confirmed this to social media, writing:

"It's an electronic issue that has forced Oscar out the race."

The team has also shared an update on Norris' issues, writing:

"Lando stops again as we are managing a PU issue."
