Max Verstappen won the Qatar Grand Prix after starting from pole position and taking his third championship title yesterday. 

Joining the Red Bull driver on the podium were Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris who crossed the line in second and third place, respectively.

It was a disastrous start for Mercedes as Lewis Hamilton and George Russell crashed into each other at the first corner, where Hamilton's race came to a premature end. Russell managed to get back to the pits to change the tyres and assess the damage before getting back out and continued with the race. 

Penalty: Nico Hulkenberg was given a 10 second time penalty for starting in the incorrect position. Carlos Sainz did not start the race due to a last-minute fuel leak and the German driver started in Sainz's grid box rather than his own. 

Penalty: Sergio Perez received a 5 second time penalty for exceeding track limits.

Fernando Alonso had a close-call on the 34th lap when he suffered from some oversteer which led him to run off the track and into the gravel. He was able to avoid collision and rejoined the race. 

Penalty: Sergio Perez was handed another 5 second penalty for exceeding track limits again. 

Logan Sargeant returned to the pits on Lap 42 to retire from the race after not being well. He was running at the back of the pack at the time.

Penalty: A 5 second time penalty was given to Lance Stroll for exceeding track limits.

Penalty: Pierre Gasly was the next driver to be given a 5 second time penalty for exceeding track limits. 

Penalty: Alex Albon received a 5 second time penalty for track limits.

Penalty: Pierre Gasly was handed with another 5 second penalty for track limits.

Fernando Alonso will be investigated after the race for an alleged unsafe return to the track after he ran off in lap 34.

Penalty: Lance Stroll had another 5 second penalty for track limits.

Penalty: Sergio Perez was handed a third 5 second penalty, again for track limits.

The chaotic race came to a close with Max Verstappen taking yet another first place trophy and McLaren continuing their impressive streak with a double-podium.
