As the 2023 F1 season is set to kick off in Bahrain in just over two weeks, former Formula 1 driver Ralph Schumacher can hardly contain his excitement for the new racing year. In a recent interview with Sky Sports Deutschland, Schumacher analysed what we can expect from the teams and expressed his high expectations for Mercedes.

Despite the challenge of gauging the actual strength of the teams before the test days, Schumacher believes Mercedes is on the right track and expects a lot from them in the upcoming season. The German team made a strong recovery in 2022 after a difficult start and is looking to secure the world title once again this year.

According to Schumacher, Mercedes has "a very strong driver duo", with him adding that he also sees potential in Ferrari - although he remains cautious about their chances.

"With Ferrari, it's always a bit of a wait and see. The team can be extremely strong at times, but we also have to note that both drivers have made a lot of mistakes. The team has also made mistakes. There are some shortcomings."

Overall, Schumacher's insights highlight the highly competitive nature of the upcoming F1 season and sets the stage for what promises to be a thrilling year of racing.
