Red Bull Chief Roasts Ferrari and Mercedes After Yet Another Successful Grand Prix
It's been a remarkable start to the 2022 season for Red Bull Racing. With five races completed, the team has already notched up five wins, a feat that has left team principal Christian Horner pinching himself in disbelief. Following their fourth one-two finish of the season in Miami, Horner admitted that he never thought he would see his team performing so well.
"Five races, five wins. We've never had a start like this and we're wondering where are the others?" Horner exclaimed in a recent interview with Sky Sports.
"We made a normal step over the winter, it's more that where did Mercedes and Ferrari go?"
The current standings tell a story of Red Bull's dominance. The team has a commanding lead over Aston Martin, and the gap to Ferrari and Mercedes is many times greater. In the short term, it doesn't appear that any of these teams pose a serious threat to Red Bull.
"They're working hard on upgrades for Europe," Horner said, referring to Red Bull's competitors. "With the penalty we have later in the year it's important for us to get as much air between us and the opposition at this stage of the season."
The penalty that Horner is referring to is the infamous budget cap that Red Bull exceeded, leading to a wind tunnel penalty that will likely come into effect later in the year. Horner expects that the effects of the penalty will become clear sooner rather than later.
"I think you'll see from the next race, we have to be selective in what we test and how we develop," Horner explained.
"Thankfully the car has got off to a good start. I do expect it to converge later in the year."
As the 2022 season continues, all eyes will be on Red Bull Racing as the competition will likely start to seem closer than it is currently. Can they maintain their incredible form? Will the penalty have a significant impact on their performance? One thing is for sure, the team is riding high on confidence, and with drivers like Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez behind the wheel and Adrian Newey behind the RB19, they're a force to be reckoned with.
