Spanish GP News: Lewis Hamilton And George Russell Crash Sees Drivers Summoned To Stewards
Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have been summoned to the stewards after their collision in Q2 of qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix.
The two Mercedes drivers collided with each other at the end of Q2. Russell was moving out of the slipstream of Carlos Sainz not realising that Hamilton was right behind him causing contact between the pair.
Hamilton's W14 suffered from damage, losing the end plat to his front wing. Russell was out of the session at this point, however, work had to be done on the seven-time champion's car very quickly before Q3 began.
It has now been confirmed that the pair have been summoned to the stewards. The official document states:
"The driver and team representative are required to report to the Stewards at 18:30, in relation to the incident below.
"Alleged breach of Article 2b Chapter IV, Appendix L of the FIA International Sporting Code - Car 63 [George Russell] abnormally changed direction directly causing impact with Car 44 [Lewis Hamilton] on the start/finish straight at 16:48."
Hamilton went on to qualify in fifth position for the race tomorrow with Russell starting from twelfth. Max Verstappen took pole position followed by Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris who will be starting from second and third, respectively.
We will have to wait to see if any penalties will be given for the incident and if this will change the grid line-up for the Spanish Grand Prix tomorrow.
