Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time Formula One champion, is a household name in the racing world. At 38 years old, the British driver has achieved numerous milestones in his career and is showing no signs of slowing down. Despite his age, Hamilton made it clear during the presentation of the new Mercedes for the 2023 season that he is not ready to retire from the sport. And now Toto Wolff has confirmed there have been talks about his future contract.

Hamilton's current contract with the Brackley-based team is set to expire after this 2023 season, but team boss Toto Wolff has already assured fans that a new agreement will be reached.

Before the winter break, Wolff had stated that negotiations were progressing well, and he reiterated this during a press conference held on Wednesday morning. He stated that a preliminary discussion had taken place, and while contracts are not usually complicated, they tend to undergo minor changes. He emphasized that there is no timeline for a contract to be signed since the current one runs for the full year.

"There has been a first chat.

"We have done a few of these contracts in the past and they change [small parts] so it's not usually complex. Apart from the obvious terms. We have had a first chat but I don't want to commit to the timeline.

"It's not important for us. It runs a full year and we will find the right time."

Wolff's reassurances regarding Hamilton's contract have put fans' concerns to rest, but it is no secret that the Brit's age is a topic of discussion. At 38, Hamilton is heading towards 40, which is considered a significant milestone for athletes. However, Wolff does not share this concern, stating that age does not play a role in determining an athlete's performance:

"Age does not play a role. Top athletes can push their limits," he says.

Hamilton's age is not the only obstacle he has faced in his career. The 2022 season was filled with challenges, including fierce competition from Red Bull after a change of regulations.

With the 2023 season just around the corner, Hamilton is gearing up for another year of racing. He has set his sights on securing his eighth championship, a feat that would solidify his position as one of the greatest drivers of all time. His commitment to Mercedes and his passion for racing make him a force to be reckoned with, and fans are eagerly anticipating Hamilton and his new car's performance.
