Toto Wolff: Mercedes need "two or three tenths" to fight for wins
2022 has been a difficult season for Mercedes, who find themselves without a race win after 11 rounds.
This form is uncharacteristic of the Brackley squad, who are still pushing to maximise the capabilities of the W13.
Toto Wolff is pleased with the progress made by the Silver Arrows, though he conceded there is still some way left to go, as quoted by racingnews365.com:
"We're still lacking these two or three tenths in performance.
"Overall, the car was much quicker [in the race compared to qualifying] but not quick enough to challenge at the front.
"I think it's pure performance [the W13's weakness]. The porpoising, I think we got on top of.
"I think if we were to go back to Monaco and to Baku, we wouldn't be great, but for sure [we would] not have the problems that we saw a few weeks ago.
Lewis Hamilton has now taken three consecutive podium finishes, so there are reasons for the German squad to be optimistic.
Mercedes lack the raw pace to fight for wins on merit but will surely find themselves in the position to pick up the pieces if and when Red Bull and Red Bull find themselves in trouble.
