Alfa Romeo F1 driver Valtteri Bottas has revealed he is in talks to buy the Kymi Ring, a circuit in southern Finland that has been struggling since its inception in 2019. Bottas, along with several other investors, is considering purchasing the circuit, which was declared bankrupt last year.

The Kymi Ring was built with the intention of becoming a fixture in the MotoGP championship, but its first scheduled race was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic also caused the 2021 race to be postponed, and in 2022, the race was cancelled again due to political tensions in the region, likely referring to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

As a result of the circuit's failure to hold a race, it has been struggling financially, leading to its eventual bankruptcy. Bottas and other potential buyers are now interested in purchasing the Kymi Ring and turning it into a viable business.

Bottas, who drives for Alfa Romeo, spoke to Finnish media outlet IS about his interest in the circuit. He confirmed that he is considering investing in the Kymi Ring but is still weighing his options.

"I have discussed with potential buyer candidates about investing in the Kymi Ring.

"It is therefore possible that I would join. However, I now first need further clarification on where exactly we are going. I think it is still possible to make Kymi Ring to a working concept.

"Hopefully, in any case, a solution will be found soon. It would be a shame if someone didn't run the track."

The Kymi Ring was built with the intention of hosting MotoGP races. However it does hold a Grade 1 FIA license, which means that it could potentially be used for Formula 1 races in the future, which is what we would imagine the Finnish driver would be hoping for.
