Nyck de Vries is out of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix after coming to a stop on the tenth lap of the race following contact with the race wall.

The Dutch driver caused the first safety car of the race after coming to a halt at Turn 6 after hitting the race wall damaging his front left wheel and suspension. The team shared to social media:

"Lap 10/51: oh no! @nyckdevries is off at Turn 6 he retires from the race"

This comes after De Vries crashed during the qualifying session on Friday before completing a lap so had to get permission to take part in the grand prix today.

The safety car caused a slew of pitstops onto hard tyres throughout the grid before the action got going again on the restart.

AlphaTauri are now counting on De Vries' teammate Yuki Tsunoda to bring home points for the team. The Japanese driver is currently racing in twelfth place behind Lando Norris in the McLaren and Nico Hulkenberg in the Haas.
