Yuki Tsunoda crashed in the early stages of the Azerbaijan Sprint Race, putting the race under virtual safety car conditions before a full safety car was deployed later on.

The Japanese driver understeered at Turn 15 leading him to collide with the race wall at the rear of the AlphaTauri. Tsunoda's car suffered damage to the nose and rear, losing a tyre. He managed to slowly get back to the pits where the team attempted to get the car back onto the track, which they did.

However, it was clear as Tsunoda got back on track that there were still problems ending the race for him. The race Stewards have revealed that they will be investigating why Tsunoda was released back onto the track from the pits when the car was in an unfit condition. This could lead to a race penalty for the grand prix tomorrow.

It is yet to be revealed if Tsunoda suffered from a puncture before he collided with the race wall or not.
