F1 Rumour: Alfa Romeo To Partner With Haas For 2024
According to Motorsport.com's recent news, Alfa Romeo, the iconic Italian brand, is set to keep its Formula One presence alive, potentially through a collaboration with the Haas team.
The current bond between Alfa Romeo and Sauber, initially formed in 2017, will conclude as this season wraps up. This alliance gave Alfa Romeo a high-profile platform without the hefty investment often associated with F1. Unfortunately, the bond's termination has been triggered by Audi's acquisition of Sauber.
With this transition, Alfa Romeo's leaders have been exploring different paths. Jean-Philippe Imparato, the Managing Director, shared that their investigation ranged from pondering a World Endurance Championship entry with Peugeot to maintaining their footing in Formula One.
Interestingly, these searches brought Imparato and Gunther Steiner, Haas's team principal, together for a meeting in Monte Carlo last May. Here, the idea of a possible alliance was discussed. While Haas made it clear that the team's name was non-negotiable, as Sauber had allowed, they were nonetheless open to exploring other forms of cooperation.
This meeting has stirred up anticipations about exciting developments for Alfa Romeo and Haas in the upcoming year, although no official confirmation has been issued by either party. One speculation is that Alfa Romeo might 'rebrand' the Ferrari power unit, giving the engines used by Haas a new Alfa Romeo identity. This rebranding could ensure Alfa Romeo's continued involvement in racing, albeit in a new avatar.
Past reports of meetings between the two parties in diverse contexts have added fuel to these speculations.
As Formula One gears up for the summer break, a period usually rife with team and driver announcements, we'll be on the lookout for any news confirming this potential partnership.
