There are rumoured to be some exciting changes coming to the Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend format at the end of this month.

After extensive discussions and negotiations, the Formula 1 teams have finally reached an agreement on potential changes to the Sprint race weekend format. And they're aiming to implement these changes in time for the first sprint race of the season in Baku.

The Sprint weekend format as it currently stands, which has been the same since its introduction, has been up for discussion for some time now. There is the first free practice session and qualifying for the sprint race on the Friday, followed by the second practice session and sprint race on the Saturday. The results of the sprint race then determine the line-up for the grand prix on the Sunday.

The proposed changes would see two qualifying sessions over the race weekend. The existing qualifying session, which takes place on Friday afternoon, would determine the race line-up for the grand prix on the Sunday. Then, the second free practice session would be replaced by a shorter qualifying for the sprint race later that day. This means that teams will have more opportunities to fine-tune their cars and drivers' strategies, leading to even more exhilarating races.

The proposed changes will still need to be approved by the FIA, however, with over three weeks until the F1 goes to Azerbaijan, there is still time for this change to come into play by then. This is sure to spark excitement amongst fans with it bringing more racing to a weekend.
