Seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton has made headlines by securing a two-year contract extension with Mercedes which was confirmed earlier today. It has now been reported to be valued at £100 million. This momentous agreement firmly positions Hamilton as one of the sport's highest-earning drivers.

The journey to this landmark agreement wasn't without its challenges. Both Hamilton and Mercedes, eager to consolidate their alliance, had to navigate through several negotiation rounds.

The main point of contention apparently revolved around the contract's duration. Hamilton's aspiration for a more extended term initially met some resistance from Mercedes.

However, the exceptional financial terms of the new contract, lacking an option for a third year, became a decisive factor. There were rumours about other racing giants, including Ferrari, potentially courting Hamilton. But, both Hamilton and Mercedes CEO Toto Wolff remained adamant they were committed to continuing their working relationship.

Speaking in the press release about the new contract, Hamilton commented:

“We dream everyday of being the best and we have dedicated the past decade together to achieving that goal. Being at the top does not happen overnight or over a short period of time, it takes commitment, hard work and dedication and it’s been an honour to earn our way into the history books with this incredible team.

"We have never been hungrier to win. We have learnt from every success but also every setback. We continue to chase our dreams, we continue to fight no matter the challenge and we will win again. I’m grateful to the team who have supported me both on and off the track. Our story isn’t finished, we are determined to achieve more together and we won’t stop until we do."
