F1 Rumour: Williams Set To Sign Legendary Recruit As Technical Chief
Williams Team Principal James Vowles revealed a few days ago that the team was actively seeking a Technical Director. Though it was a top priority for him, he didn't want to rush the recruitment process until he found someone suitable.
While Vowles has finally found the right person for the job and revealed that the paperwork had been done, he wasn't in a position to announce the name yet.
According to Formula.Hu, Williams is all set to announce the hiring of Nick Chester as their new Technical Director in the coming days. Chester replaces Francois-Xavier Demaison, who left the role toward the end of last year.
Chester worked with Renault as Technical Director until 2020. Having plenty of experience up his sleeves, he has worked with McLaren and Mercedes E squads. Also reported is his short-term deal with Andretti Autosport which is currently gearing up with Cadillac to be a part of the F1 grid in 2025.
Another big report that came in from Formula.Hu is the selection of Pat Fry as Chief Technical Officer at Williams. Pat currently holds the same role at Alpine and just like Chester, has experience working with McLaren, Benetton, Ferrari, Manor, and other big legends like Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, and even Michael Schumacher!
While those are some epic names to have on a CV, Williams on the other hand refuses to comment about the names mentioned as new recruits. A Williams spokesperson told Formula.Hu:
"We are actively recruiting for many senior positions and want to spend enough time to find the right people for the open positions.
"
We do not wish to comment on rumours about specific individuals."
James Vowles has been in the process of revamping staff and infrastructure for the Williams Racing team, some of which he believes are outdated by 20 years! The coming days would hopefully shed light on rumors that are doing the rounds.
