What To Expect From 2023 F1 Bahrain Testing

The test will provide an opportunity for teams to put their new cars through their paces and assess their performance ahead of the season opener, the Bahrain Grand Prix.

One of the most significant changes to the technical rules for the 2023 season is the higher ride height, which was introduced after Mercedes struggled with porpoising throughout the previous season. The altered roll bars, which were introduced after Guanyu Zhou's Alfa Romeo suffered a heavy crash at Silverstone, are another safety-oriented change that will be in effect for the 2023 season.

The winter test will be the first time that many of the new cars will be out in the open, and fans will be eagerly anticipating the debut of Red Bull Racing's championship contender, the RB19. During the team's presentation, Red Bull only revealed the livery of the new car, leaving fans to speculate about its design. While the team conducted a shakedown at Silverstone, little information was released, so the winter test will be the first time fans can see the RB19 in action.

One of the key questions surrounding the winter test is how much teams will reveal about their cars. In the past, teams have been known to "sandbag," hiding their true speed and performance until the start of the season. Mercedes, in particular, has been guilty of this in the past, which has led to speculation about their true pace during testing. Additionally, it is unclear what fuel loads the teams will use during the test, making it challenging to assess their true performance.

Bahrain Testing Daily Timetable

The test will consist of two daily sessions, each lasting four hours and starting at 7am GMT and lasting for four hours. This will be followed by a one-hour break and another 4.5 hour testing session.

Teams will decide how they use this time, what drivers they use, and how long they spend on track.

Drivers will have access to all five Pirelli tyres that will be used during the season, and they can drive as much as they want during each session. With the first race of the 2023 season just a week after the winter test, teams will be eager to make the most of their time on the track and assess their new cars' performance before the start of the season.
