Snip O Gun, a renowned mare recognized as an NRHA Hall of Famer and Million Dollar Dam, passed away today, as announced by the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA). The 1993 bay mare, fondly known as "Snip" and owned by Hilldale Farm, left a lasting impact on the reining horse community despite not having a show record of her own.

Snip O Gun's contribution to the sport was profound, as she produced a lineage of accomplished reiners, including Inferno Sixty Six (by Gunnatrashya), Big Chex To Cash (by Nu Chex To Cash), Hot Smokin Chex (by Nu Chex To Cash) and Chexmaster (by Nu Chex To Cash). Her offspring collectively earned over a million dollars, a milestone she reached during the 2019 NRHA Futurity, with her progeny amassing more than $50,000 in earnings.

In a press release from 2020, owner Tammye Hutton of Hilldale Farm praised Snip's exceptional conformation and pedigree, which made her a perfect match for breeding with top-tier stallions like Nu Chex To Cash, Gunnatrashya, and Colonels Shining Gun. Hutton emphasized Snip's calm temperament and innate athleticism, traits that greatly contributed to her success as a broodmare.

Hutton described Snip's physical attributes, remarking on her well-balanced conformation, intelligent eye, and sturdy build, noting that she stood on four strong feet. But beyond her remarkable physique, it was Snip's gentle demeanor and affectionate nature that endeared her to Hutton.

Hutton expressed admiration for Snip's personality, describing her as sweet, quiet, and always eager to be with her horse companions. Whether grazing in the pasture or eagerly responding to Hutton's call at the gate, Snip's endearing qualities left an indelible mark on those who knew her.

With Snip O Gun's passing, the reining horse community mourns the loss of a beloved and influential figure whose legacy will endure through her exceptional offspring and contributions to the sport.
